National Museum of Flight

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a 360 camera marketing campaign

The Hook

The National Museum of Flight bursts out of the stuffiness and physical confinement that people associate with museums, a visit is an escape out of the everyday and into imagination. It’s all about family-friendly fun and creativity. Wide open spaces where enjoyment is first and education is second. They came to StudioLR where I work, for help creating a campaign that shows the public what they’re all about.

The Line

Working with copywriter Daniel Paylor We created a strap-line that glues that holds it all together. Good times were key to our strategy. It’s a place where there’s always something on the horizon. Where optimism is in the offing and surprise is in store. A spacious place where spirits are lifted. A place where FUN IS IN THE AIR.

To visually portray this, we hired an Insta360 Pro II and organised a photoshoot at the museum. Our plan was to create ‘reversed tiny planet’ images drawing the viewer’s attention to the skies, surrounding exhibits and vast open spaces. A selling point of the museum the client wanted highlighted in the campaign. We scouted locations, before I shot both still and video content with our kit, juggled and directed the talent, edited both the video and stills and created collateral for the campaign.

Due to time constraints this campaign had to be shot on a windy rainy day, but I hopefully gave it a warm summers day feel in post!

The Sinker

Our work has been shared far and wide since it’s been out in the world. From radio to video, brochures to buses, and beyond, the message is most definitely out there – fun is the air at the National Museum of Flight in East Lothian.
